The Mladá Boleslav museum builds on the tradition of the Regional Museum Society, which opened the first exhibition to the public in the building of the late gothic. In 1906, the museum gained the building of the former Church of the Bohemian Brethren for its growing collections and a new exhibition opened here four years later. In 1972, the museum was given the right to use Mladá Boleslav castle for its purposes and the museum has its seat here to this day.
The early years of the castle date back to the second half of the 10th century and are connected with the establishment of the fortified settlement spreading practically across the entire area of today’s Old Town. The castle was used as a seat of castle wardens and later clerks serving the nobility and the nobility itself. After the Thirty Years’ War, the castle became the property of the town and decayed significantly. In the mid-18th century, the entire building was reconstructed to serve as army barracks, then served as a textile warehouse and only in 1972 the castle started to operate as a museum.
